BUCKWORTH BUGLE SUMMER 2004
What a busy summer! The May Day Walk……….my word didn't it rain!! It was worth it…£95 was raised for the Woodland Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, well done to all those who took part. The Hog Roast on 3 July…whilst some parishioners did not support it and despite the weather, the event went well and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Phil Cooper and Brian Whittaker celebrated birthdays, which entitle them to join the elite band of retired Buckworthians. Pat Hennessy was honoured by the Cricket Club for the work he has done over the years to help the Club stay open. The annual concert in Church was a huge success. Still to come is a wedding in the Church (by the time you receive this it may well have gone)…congratulations to the happy couple! The Annual Garden Party takes place in the gardens of Peacehaven and the Rowans on Bank Holiday Sunday, 29 August 2pm onwards.
Dick & Margaret Warrener are hosting Harvest Supper on Saturday 11 September. A three course supper with a glass of wine for £12.50.children £5. Tickets from Elaine Whittaker or Margaret Warrener

ALL SAINTS CHURCH…........As reported above the Concert with Amici was a great success. The format was slightly different but very enjoyable. The weather behaved and we were treated to a wonderful sunset as supper was served. A big thank you is due to all those who helped to organize this event. Church members and non-Church members put in lots of time and effort to ensure that the event went well and much of the food and wine was donated. In all it meant that over £1700 was raised for the Church Restoration Fund. This money will be used to pay off the first installment of the loan taken out last year to help pay for the internal decoration in Church and to repair and replace damaged windows. The general fund is at an all time low, the cost levied by the Diocese (Parish Share) to provide clergy has overtaken the collections and donations received in Church. The general running costs of the Church are kept to a minimum but, for the first time since I became treasurer in 1985, it seems likely that there will be a shortfall in the payment of the Parish Share. In order to boost the general fund, proceeds from the Garden Party and Harvest Supper will be paid into that fund. Also other ways of raising money are being looked at including Gift Aid.
The Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday 12 September at 11am…..Please come and enjoy our traditional celebration and give thanks.

PARISH COUNCIL The Annual Parish Meeting was well attended and there was some lively debate. Council met twice in July. Once at the beginning to finalize details of the Hog Roast and once at the end to review the event and to ensure that things tick over for the rest of the summer. The costs of the Hog Roast were covered by the amount set in the budget and the money raised by selling tickets to non-parishioners will enable Council to fund holding future winter meetings in the Cricket Club. The first of these meetings will be on Thursday 14 October at 8pm. Members of the public and press are cordially invited to be present (see noticeboard for further details). There may be some "parish" trees on offer later this year, The Tree Warden hopes to have details soon.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH….details are circulated regularly around the village. If you would like further information contact Gill on 896434. You are advised to keep a watchful eye over the summer months when windows and doors are left open.

LADIES GROUP meets on the first Tuesday in the month. Subjects on offer are very varied and we are still itching following Christine Brown's very informative presentation! Please do come along, the meetings are held in the Cricket Club.

THE CRICKET CLUB continues to open Weds, Fri, Sat & Sunday. A variety of themed evenings are planned throughout the year or you can go along for a quiet (or not so quiet) drink. Whatever your choice.
