All Saints Church
As reported in the Parish Pump….the Garden Party in August went very well. The wonderful Harvest Supper at the Cricket Club was a great joint effort and as usual
Margaret Warrener’s cooking went down a treat. Many, many thanks to everyone who provided food and helped with this and all our village events this year…. But it’s not over yet!.........

CHRISTMAS EVE MIDNIGHT SERVICE…
It’s Buckworth’s turn for this service, do come along at 11.30pm and, as ever, wrap up warmly for both services!!
The Historic Churches bike ride was well ridden by 7 “locals” 14 Churches were visited and 35 miles covered by the majority of the riders; visiting places as far afield as Holme and Winwick. Sponsorship amounted to £560…£280 was returned from Cambs Historic Churches as Buckworth’s share of the money. Very well done to all taking part.
It seems very likely that we shall have to pay for our future editions of the excellent magazine the Parish Pump…I will let you know what is happening as soon as it is finalized. The cost is likely to be minimal
As mentioned in the Pump we had entries in the Alconbury Show, one exhibit was awarded a second prize. A donation of £50 from the Alconbury Show Committee to the Church has arrived for which we are very grateful. The Show is another source of community involvement and enjoyment.
Parish Council….met in September and October. All Councillors and the Clerk have attended training on the New Code of Conduct. Items for discussion have included traffic issues, mains drainage, crime, and plans for Alconbury Airbase, footpaths & grass cutting.
The next meeting, 26 November 8pm in the Cricket Club, will set the precept for 2008-2009. As always, public and press are invited to attend. All agendas and minutes are up dated regularly on the village web site.
Our thanks to Cambs CC for providing a new footbridge on the footpath between Hamerton Rd and Barham Rd.
Ladies Group… met in September, October and November….September’s speaker chose the tricky subject “everything you ever wanted to know about local government”..The meeting was well attended and discussion very lively. The help sheet provided is reproduced on the web site under the “contacts” heading. October saw Jenny (the Milk Lady) Jarvis speaking to us about quilts and embroidery….what a clever lady she is…her needlework is stunning. November’s was Christmas Cracker making. Unfortunately I was away on holiday in the sunshine. The December meeting is the Christmas dinner at the 3 Horseshoes Abbots Ripton…for further details contact Yvonne890058 or Paula 890306.
Cricket Club….continues to open at the usual times…Weds, Fri, Sat, Sunday. The Parish Council holds meetings there as does Ladies Group. Other occasional events…publicised in advance.
As you will know there have been a number of incidents in and around the village. Our local PCSO has issued guidelines on how to keep safe and urges everyone to be vigilant.
The next Neighbourhood Panel Meeting will be at The Old School Hall, Green End Road, Sawtry on Monday 3 December at 7.30pm
Everyone is welcome to attend and this is your opportunity to influence policing in your area..
Further to my article in the Parish Pump about HP Gammons not appearing on Buckworth War Memorial…if anyone has further information I shall be pleased to receive it. In a recent survey of Church brasses the War Memorial in Church was assessed as being of very good quality.
