Christmas Edition 2008 - (last updated 05/12/2008)

All Saints Church
The Garden Party in August went very well. The wonderful Harvest Supper at the Cricket Club was a great joint effort, As usual Margaret Warrener’s cooking went down a treat. Many, many thanks to everyone who provided food and helped with this and all our village events this year…

Carols By Candle Light
Sunday 21 December 3pm come along and sing your favourite carols and listen to wonderful readings. This year we hope to have some special singers too! Join us for festive nibbles afterwards. If you would like to do a reading please contact Elaine on 890322.

Christmas Eve Midnight Service at Alconbury 11.30pm. The Christmas Day Service is at 8.30am in Buckworth Church.

The Historic Churches bike ride was well ridden by 7“locals” 14 Churches were visited & sponsorship amounted to £405, £202.50 was returned s as Buckworth’s share of the money. Very well done to all taking part.

The members of the Church would like to thank the Parish Council for obtaining the grant and carrying out the work to install the new Church path, everyone is highly delighted with the improvement. Hopefully the fence will be refurbished with the remaining small amount of money.
Thanks to everyone who has helped to tidy up the Churchyard. It is hoped that this will be an on-going working party….if you would like to help watch out for future dates.

The Parish Pump is available from the Farm Shop or the Post Office in Alconbury. Or you can pay me £3 for a year.

It is with regret that I report the passing of Jim Groom, a long time resident of the village. Our sympathies to Mrs Groom & Family. As mentioned in the Pump we had entries in the Alconbury Show & won 7 prizes including 2 firsts... A donation of £50 from the Alconbury Show Committee to the Church has arrived for which we are very grateful. The Show is another source of community involvement and enjoyment.. more entries next year please.

Parish Council….met in September, October, The December meeting set the precept for 2009-2010 at £4081 and formally adopted the new Freedom of Information Act which comes into effect from 1 January 09. The document shows how members of public can access Council documents either by inspection, hard copy or the web site. As most of the information is now published on the web site or put on the noticeboard this parish is reasonably well covered. The increase in the precept is to cover the recruitment and training of a new Clerk to the Council. Next meeting is 5 January 09, 8pm in the Cricket Club, as always, public and press are invited to attend. All agendas & minutes are up dated regularly on the village web site & noticeboard.

Ladies Group… met in Sept, Oct, Nov & Dec. The October meeting saw the Ladies & partners visiting the Dogs in Peterborough, no one came away much richer but we did have a wonderful evening!! Dec meeting was the Christmas Party...Again an excellent evening full of friendship and good food! Many thanks to Yvonne & Paula for all their hard work keeping the group alive and entertaining. For more info contact
Yvonne 890058 or Paula 890306.

Cricket Club….continues to open at the usual times Weds, Fri, Sat, and Sunday. The Parish Council holds meetings there as does Ladies Group. Other events publicised in advance. Bingo evening on Saturday 6 December.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
It’s that time of year again and we have been warned about bag snatchers and pick pockets. Also there are forged £20 notes doing the rounds. Workmen demanding money for work poorly carried out…if you see a van with “Bob the Builder” on it take the number and report it to the Police. Beware there is also a postal scam where you are told that a parcel is waiting for you ….you ring the premium rate number (in Belize) and can be charged as much as £20 for the call with no parcel at the end of it. For an up date on all the current scams you can visit the trading standards web site.
