Christmas 2010 - (last updated 12/12/2010)

ALL SAINTS CHURCH
CAROLS BY CANDLE LIGHT....Sunday 19 December 3pm,
Christmas Carols and Readings with festive refreshments to follow......Buckworth’s favourite service.

As you know, first we lost our curate Martin Kettle and now our Vicar! Jonathan Young has retired from the five parishes on this side of the A14....his last service here is 6 January 2011. With many thanks for his 7 years of service to this parish, we wish him and his wife Sue well in the future. The appointment of a new priest in charge is well under way and I can tell you that it will be a lady by the name of Mary (both applicants had this Christian name). The lovely Lesley Mathias will continue to keep us in order until our new vicar is installed which should be about Easter time.
Christmas Eve Midnight Service is in Alconbury this year and Christmas Day Service in Buckworth is at 8.30am.Services in 2011 continuing in the same pattern for the time being.
THE BELLS…work continues to store 4 of the bells in the tower and costing for repairs to the tower stonework have yet to be received. The stall at the Cricket Club Christmas Fayre raised £50 for the Restoration Fund....thanks to all who made cakes. -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Many thanks to Yvonne and Paula for their hard work. For further details contact Yvonne on 890058, Paula 890306

------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BUCKWORTH BROWSERS The next meetings of the Book Club will be held on Weds 15 Dec., Jan 12, 16 Feb, 16 March 7.30pm in the Cricket Club. Book currently being read is Cider with Rosie. The first year of the Book Club has proved very successful and we look forward to more light hearted meetings in 2011. Our meetings are fun with lively discussions on literature including the “odd” favourite poem; also book and magazine swaps. We have a variety of book types over the coming months (everyone reads at their own speed & there is no pressure to finish a book by a certain date). If you would like further information about the club contact me on 890982 or just come along to the meeting. The library van now only comes once a month on the first Thursday in the month at 2.40pm. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BUCKWORTH SOWERS & GROWERS The next meetings of the Gardening Club 2 Feb (none in Jan), 2 March, 30 Mar all at 7.30pm in the Cricket Club. Meetings in 2010 have been well attended and very interesting with lots of information and advice. Seeds and plants have been swapped. It is hoped to visit the Anglesey Abbey in February to see the snowdrops and a guest speaker has been promised for the February meeting when there will be a “gardener’s question time”. As with the Book Club, if you would like further information just come along to the meeting or contact me. Everyone is very welcome. Members of the Club did very well at the Alconbury Show in September with over 10 prizes finding their way to here. -----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Cricket Club…Thanks to all who supported the Clubs recent events. Three very successful fundraisers – the Beaujolais Evening raised £240, (many thanks to Nick and Veronica), the Christmas Fayre contributed £65 and the excellent Christmas meal which added £190 to the building fund. In addition to raising money for refurbishing the club all attending had a good time. Many thanks to all who gave their time and cooking skills to prepare these events we couldn’t do it without you!
Of course the running costs of the club are covered by all the regular users who have been enjoying the new heating – the Sowers and Growers, Book Club, Parish Council, Ladies Group and those attending the bingo nights. The club is available for private bookings..Contact Peter on 890058
